Research Opportunity

Participatory Research at McGill has a mandate to promoting the use and understanding of the participatory approach to research within the Faculty of Medicine and the wider McGill community – including affiliated hospitals and institutes.

We are offering a research opportunity to a current graduate student to undertake a systematic review of the literature on participatory research, expressly to determine the documented effectiveness of this mode of enquiry.

The value of this stipend is up to $20,000 over 12 to 18 months.

Candidates for this research position should be currently enrolled in a graduate program at McGill University, and be in good academic sanding.

This research undertaking will require an intensive commitment (up to 20 hours per week) on behalf of the candidate. Therefore the successful candidates must provide a letter of support from their graduate supervisor acknowledging the time commitment. Furthermore, the candidate should be undertaking a thesis project amenable to the participatory approach so that the resulting work can become part of their dissertation.

Applicants should submit:

  • A cover letter, describing the candidates interest in participatory research, and how the present work fits with their own graduate research topic
  • Official transcripts
  • Letter of support from current graduate supervisor (acknowledging time commitment)
  • Names and contact information (phone #, email address, postal address) for two (2) additional referees.

Deadline:        January 26, 2007

Applications can be submitted electronically or by post to:
