Dawn Susan Allen, Phd PRAM Presentation October 12, 2007 “V” is for Action: Video in Participatory Action Research with ESRD patients. Abstract This presentation draws on data from an ongoing PAR study with End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) patients in which video recording has come to play a central role. I will begin with a brief description of why and how we have engaged in video-making. I will then show a 16-minute video we have begun to use as both a consciousness-raising “action” and a communicative tool amongst our participants. Finally, I will discuss the tensions between using video to conduct research (process) and making-videos as a consciousness-raising action (product) in our PAR study. |
